Lewis "JB" Charles Ballenger, age 70, of Carrollton, Kentucky, and the son of the late James Osborne and Sarah (Freeman) Ballenger, was born on September 29, 1953, in Greenville, South Carolina. On June 23, 1971, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Macon, Georgia where he served his country as a distinguished rifleman. On June 23, 1973, he was honorably discharged at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. For over 35 years, he was a foreman with Fluor Daniels Construction where he enjoyed being a great mentor to the younger workers. He was a father-figure to many of the younger guys and was always bringing extra lunches for them to eat. He also worked at Mechanical Construction Services (MCS) for about five years and was a millwright, boilermaker, and did some welding. On August 2, 2000, he was united in marriage to Patricia "Trish" Ann Dortch in Memphis, Tennessee.
In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley, participating in motorcycle fundraiser runs, collecting coins, playing Poker, watching westerns and Pawn Stars on television, going to auction sales where he was famously known as "the dollar man," and sitting out on the front porch to watch the birds. He was a member of the American Legion Post 41 in Carrollton. JB had such a big heart, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and never went anywhere without making a friend. Mr. Ballenger passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
