B. C. Morton

January 7, 1940 ~ October 5, 2019 (age 79)

B.C. Morton, age 79, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Burton Joseph and Esther (Keim) Morton, was born January 7, 1940, in Erie, Pennsylvania. During his high school years, his family moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he was a 1957 graduate of Saint Xavier High School. He attended Bellarmine College from 1957 to 1960 and then graduated from the University of Louisville Law School in 1965. On November 14, 1965, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged on September 7, 1971.

Over the years, B.C. was the public defender in Allen County, Kentucky and had a private practice in Crawford County, Indiana. He was previously a member of the Elk's Lodge and Rotary Club in Scottsville, Kentucky. Most recently, he served as the Chief Probation Officer for Jefferson County and Switzerland County, Indiana before the two counties developed their own probation offices. After retirement in 2010, he served as the director of the Scalo House in Madison and became very involved with La Casa Amiga. He was known to always have lollipops and candy in his office and would occasionally even bring ice cream for the kids. He was known to be sarcastic and irreverent, but also a man of integrity. He had a generous heart and respected the person, not status. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he often volunteered and served on the Parish Council. He enjoyed tutoring adults and children in their English studies, helping with Bingo, and was involved in Alcoholics Anonymous. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, trying new foods, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Morton passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.
