Richard L. Van Wye

August 6, 1933 ~ August 25, 2019 (age 86)

Richard L. Van Wye, 86, of Madison, Indiana, and son of the late Frank and Florence (Lockridge) Van Wye, was born August 6, 1933, in Dupont, Indiana. He joined the Army in 1952 and served in Korea until 1955. He was united in matrimony to the former Delores Lyle on May 9, 1958. He retired from Williamson Heater as a welder and was a member of the United Sheetmetal Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He also enjoyed attending Faith Covenant Church. He enjoyed fishing when he had time, vegetable gardening, and loved his family and grandchildren. Mr. Van Wye passed away August 25, 2019, at his residence.

His life will be cherished by his wife, Delores of Madison; his children: David Van Wye and his wife Darlene of Dupont, and Kenneth Van Wye and his wife, Jackie of Hanover; his daughter-in-law, Doris Van Wye; his former son-in-law, Art Bell; his brother: Gary Van Wye of Madison; his grandchildren: Derin and Valeria Van Wye, Brittany Van Wye, Benjamin and Alle Van Wye, Brock and Amanda Van Wye, Justine and Andy Mahoney, Brandon Van Wye, and Brent and Kim Van Wye; and his great-grandchildren, Jordan Van Wye, Allen Mahoney, and Natalie Mahoney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Van Wye Bell; his son, Rick Van Wye; his sisters: Lucy Smiley, Betty Burris, Mary Callis, Norma Bode, Bonnie Thompson, Myrle Vitale, Helen Burchfield, Carol Irwin, and Maxine Jones; and his brothers: Ronald Van Wye, Frank Van Wye, Jr., and Charles Van Wye.

Pastor Judy Howard Stater and Brother Wayne Mahoney will conduct funeral Services at 10:00 AM Friday, August 30, 2019, at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Dupont Cemetery in Dupont. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM Thursday, August 29, 2019, and from 9:00 AM until time of service on Friday.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Faith Covenant Church. Contributions may be made at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes or below.
