Robert "Dirk" Cheatham, age 64, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Robert "Buck" and Nancy Lou (Slider) Cheatham, was born on January 20, 1955, in Madison. He graduated from Madison High School and attended Indiana University. He was united in marriage to the former Nancy LaVerne Jester on March 24, 2000 in Carrollton, Kentucky.
He was the owner and operator of A-1 Heating and Air for over forty years and was a 45-year member of the Western Fire Company #3. He was also a member of the Madison Elk's Lodge and the Sons of the American Legion. He loved animals, especially his dog, Charlie. He was an avid sports fan, primarily enjoying the Indiana University Hoosiers, Cincinnati Reds, and the hydroplane races during the Madison Regatta. He loved to sit and talk about old times and enjoyed vacationing in Florida. Mr. Cheatham passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his wife Nancy of 19 years of Madison; his sister: Lisa Liter and her husband, Montane, of Madison; his brothers: Michael Cheatham and Kevin Cheatham and his wife, Carla, both of Madison; his step-daughters: Cheryl Hacker of Madison and Kim Ralston and her husband, Duane, of Lexington, Indiana; his step-son, Shane Kuppler and his spouse, Michael, of St. Petersburg, Florida; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Wayne Cheatham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel, 423 W. Main Street, Downtown Madison, with the Western Fire Company #3 memorial service to be included.
Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel from 4:00 PM until time of service on Wednesday.
