Life story View WebTribute In Loving Memory of William F. "Sarge" Stephens William F. Stephens, age 71, of Bedford, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born on September 7, 1932, in Yamacraw, Kentucky the son of Chester L. and Zora (Davis) Stephens. He was married to Wilma Puckett on September 7, 1996. William "Sarge" graduated from the University of Kentucky in Computer Science. He went on to serve his country for 27 years as a Sergeant First Class in both the Air Force and the Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. For the last eight years he has owned and operated the Central Hotel in Madison. He was a member of the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9 and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #1969. SURVIVORS In addition to his wife, Wilma, William was survived by three daughters: Beverly Ann Plunkett of Romeo, MI, Stephanie Taylor Stephens of Pineknot, KY, and Renata Jacobs-Parks of Owensboro, KY; one son, William Farrell Stephens, II; six step-sons: William Paul, David, and Aaron Puckett, all of Louisville, Tony Gunter of Owensboro, KY, Cheyne Gunter and Chad Gunter, both of Madison; four sisters: Mary K. Lindsey, Margaret Tucker, Brenda Chitwood and Nancy Tucker, all of Whitley City, KY; two brothers: Brent Stephens and Steven Stephens, both of Whitley City, KY; ten grandchildren: Tyra Harp, Justin Plunkett, Jeremy Plunkett, Avery Parks, Ayden Farrell Stephens, Ethan Puckett, Delaney Puckett, Justin Gunter, Cherokee Gunter, and Chase Gunter; and four great-grandchildren: Brandon Harp, Hunter Plunkett, Jaden Harp, and Taylor Plunkett. William was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Chester, Jr., Joseph and Charles Stephens. SERVICES Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Slow Time Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Lytle-Gans Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard from American Legion, Jefferson Post #9, will conduct military graveside services. VISITATION Friends and family may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Slow Time on Monday, and from 9:00 to 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Lytle-Gans Funeral Home. EXPRESSIONS Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Animal Protection League of McCreary Co, KY. Cards are available at the funeral home.
