Life story Mr. Baxter B. McGee, age 63, of Madison, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Robley Rex Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on October 25, 1949 in Madison, the son of Baxter E. and Erma A. Furnish McGee. Mr. McGee graduated in 1967 from Madison Consolidated High School, and took some college classes. He entered the United States Army, Special Services Unit, and served two tours in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP5. He was a tow boat captain for Commercial Barge Lines for over 30 years, receiving his tow boat pilots' license in 1980 and retiring in 2010. His memberships included the Tri State County Club, and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and reading. He loved the outdoors and helping his friends. Survivors include one sister, Ruth A. Lapine of Madison; one nephew, James P. Lapine of Madison; a dear friend, Gina Ochs of San Diego, California; and several loving cousins and devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, James C. Lapine and one nephew, James C. Lapine, Jr. The Reverend Dr. Matthew Stultz will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Dupont Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Friday, May 10 and from 10 to 11 AM Saturday. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion will conduct full funeral honors at the funeral home and cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army.
