Life story Benjamin L. "Bennie" Peak, Sr., age 89, of Madison, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 22, 1926 in Bedford, Kentucky, the son of William J and Mary Bayne Peak. Mr. Peak was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. While serving, he was involved with military campaigns inTinian, Saipan and was in the first wave of the assault on Iwo Jima. Later, he owned and operated an IGA grocery store in Osgood, Indiana, and the Main Grill Restaurant in Madison. He was a member of the Madison Moose Lodge, the Elk's Club in Indianapolis, VFW Post #1969 and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, both of Madison. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include three sons: Bennie Peak of Greenwood, Indiana, Benji Peak and his wife, Lauren of Scottsdale, Arizona and Dr. Charles Poteet and his wife, Kathey of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter, Beth Ann Ross and her husband, Tom of Carmel, Indiana; one step-daughter, Stacey Peak-Bartenfelder of Ogden, Utah; his former wife, Gloria Peak of Sun City West, Arizona; nine grandchildren: Amber Peak Mason and her husband Dave, Alissa Peak Syrus and her husband Matt, Samantha Ross and Kyndal Ross of Carmel, Trystyn Smolarczyk of Madison, Kendall Peak and Benji Peak, Jr., both of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Braxton Peak of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sara Savage of North Platt, Nebraska; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Larry and Dawn Peak. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Bayne) Peak Potter, father, William Peak, one brother, Buford Peak, his wife, Betty Jean Peak, and his step-father, Robert "Bob" Potter. Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend Robert Leach at 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Lytle Funeral Homes, Main Street Chapel. Friends and family may call at Lytle Funeral Homes, Main Street Chapel from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday. The Honor Guards from the United States Marine Corp and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military services at the funeral home.
