Obituary

Life story Bernard Jenkins, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the Waters of Clifty Falls. Born November 26, 1915 in Madison, he was the son of Leonard and Hattie (Thomas) Jenkins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Elizabeth and Helen Jenkins, and Ruth Whitehead; and two brothers, Theodore and Leonard Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was a 1940 graduate of Kentucky State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and was an avid basketball, baseball and Madison Cubs fan. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Survivors include two nephews: Noble Whitehead of Columbus, Indiana, and Ed Whitehead of Indianapolis, Indiana; and three great nieces: Dione Gordon of Miramar, Florida, Dana Whitehead of Indianapolis, and Dawn Whitehead of Bloomington, Indiana. The Reverend James Lewis will conduct funeral services at 3:00 P.M. (slow time) Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Springdale Cemetery where the Honor Guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9 will conduct full military honors. Friends and family may call at Lytle Funeral Chapel from 12:00 Noon (slow time) until service time on Saturday. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Waters of Clifty Falls Activity Fund. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
