Obituary

Life story Bill L. Hammond, 82, of Hanover, Indiana passed away Tuesday July 3, 2012 at The Waters of Clifty Falls. Born February 8, 1930, in Jefferson County, Indiana he was the son of Marion and Grace (Richmond) Hammond. He was a sergeant in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Hammond retired in April of 1992 from the Madison State Hospital as an attendant. He was also a farmer. He was a fan of NASCAR and barbershop singing, and his favorite passion was steam engines. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Davis) Hammond, whom he married on September 24, 1954 in Madison; a daughter, Sherri Ann Hammond of Hanover; one granddaughter, Michelle Cartwright and her husband, Daniel of Hanover; one sister, Phyllis Hammond of Clearwater, Florida; one nephew, Jeff Hammond and his wife, Susan of Tampa, Florida; an adopted grandson, Stacey Noble of Hanover; and one great-granddaughter, Grace Cartwright of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Robert Lee "Bob" Hammond on October 19, 2004. The Reverend Troy Hedges will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM on Friday July 6, 2012 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9. Friends and family may gather from 10:00 AM until time of service on Friday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
