Life story Mrs. Bonnie Lou Smart, age 94, formerly of Madison, Indiana, passed away on December 28, 2018 at the Rosegate Village in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born January 1, 1924 in Hanover, she was the daughter of Robert Frank and Nellie B. (Wallace) Ferguson. On December 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Russell W. Smart in Madison and they welcomed two children, Alice and Tom. Bonnie worked in the mail room at Jefferson Proving Ground. After retirement she took many mission trips in the United States as well as mission trips to Latvia and Serbia. One of her favorite trips was when she got to visit the Holy Land. Bonnie dearly loved the over twenty years she was active in her Bible Study group from Hanover United Methodist Church. Bonnie enjoyed reading, knitting, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bonnie was a member of the WSCS at the Zoar United Methodist Church, the Bethany Circle of King's Daughters' and Sons', Antioch Home Economic Club, Classic Car Club, 4-H Fair Board, and the Pilot Club. She was also a lifelong member of the Hanover Order of the Eastern Star. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Alice Allred, and her husband Barry of Orange Park, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Linda Smart of Indianapolis; four grandchildren: Jennifer Lenglade and her husband, Jon, Ryan Allred and his wife, Merri Anna, Megan Pendlum and her husband, Jamison, and Cara Richardson and her husband, Heath; and seven great grandchildren: Jason, Evan, Jessica, Alex, Carter, Jasper, and Emily. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. Smart on May 3, 1993; her son Thomas F. Smart on April 29, 2010; her sisters: Dorothea Hutsell, Nellie Jane Ferguson, and Sarah Margaret Ferguson; and her brother: Robert S. Ferguson. Reverend Ryan S. Allred will conduct funeral services at 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, 220 E. Lagrange Road, Hanover, with interment to follow in Zoar Church Cemetery near Hanover. Friends and family may call at the Hanover United Methodist Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Riley Children's Hospital or Hanover United Methodist Church.
