"Sonny" Cox
April 1, 1934 – December 10, 2023
Charles A. "Sonny" Cox, age 89, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Arthur and Rosella (Kasper) Cox, was born April 1, 1934, in Madison. He graduated from Madison High School. He was united in marriage to the former Janet Pearson on July 17, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison. As a kid, Sonny delivered newspapers and worked at Cox's Garage and then at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. He also worked at the Charlestown Ammunition Plant and Jay's Market before working for himself as a contractor and building houses. He finished his career at the Madison Marina as a boat mechanic, State Highway garage and Madison State Hospital as a mechanic. Sonny was a member of the Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed boating, motorcycles and South Florida. Mr. Cox passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at River Terrace Health Campus in Madison. His life will be cherished by his children: Linda (Mike) Wehner, of Madison, Leslie (Mike) Jenkins, of Louisville, Kentucky, Mike (Lori) Cox, of Campbellsburg, Indiana, and Dart (Nickie) Cox, of Madison; his sister: Mary Jane Furnish, of Madison; his grandchildren: Joey Bowling, Stephanie Sentz, Jenny Rhine, Amie Pesek, Cassaundra Hasse, Justin Henry, Keith Cox, Ashley Cox, Kalynn Cox, Michaela Cox, Laney Cox, Chip Cox, Gracie Nolan and Alila Nolan; his great grandchildren: Keely, Alex, Cooper, Maggie, Caleb, Charlie, Chloe, Cooper, Cayden, Madison, Lilly, Kyleigh, Brady, McKenzie, Hailey, Glenn, Megan, Eliza and Otto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet on January 2, 2019; and two sons: Keith Cox and Chip Cox. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel on Madison's hilltop with interment to be held in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison, Indiana. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home.
