Life story Clara Emily Alexander 75, of Madison, IN, passed away on November 29, 2009, at Woodlands Golden Living Center in Newburgh, IN. She was born April 10, 1934, in the historic town of Madison, IN, a town which she dearly loved. While at Madison High School, she was a cheerleader when her Cubs won the 1950 State Basketball Championship - for which she was most proud. She was instrumental in placing the signage commemorating this victory at the entrance to Madison. She worked at Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison prior to moving to Evansville. After moving to Evansville in 1965, she was a furniture consultant for Finke Furniture. Clara was very creative, which showed in all her crafts. After raising her children, she attended and graduated from the University of Evansville and received a Liberal Arts Degree, another proud accomplishment. She returned to Madison in 1988 and became a member of the Historic Madison where she served as a tour guide. She was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and was most proud of her German-Irish heritage. She was a member of Phi Beta Psi and was a democratic candidate for City Council, Third District, in the 90's. Clara brightened up the room with her laughter. She will be truly missed by her friends and family. Clara is survived by her daughter, Ginger Mills, and her husband, Kenny, of Evansville; son Billy Joe Alexander, Jr., and his wife Malinda, of Evansville, IN; grandsons, Ken Mills; and Stephen Mills and his wife Nicole. Great grandson, Max Mills, of Omaha, NE; sister, June Kernen and her husband, Bob, of Madison, IN; niece, Debbie Kernen; nephews, Jeff Kernen and wife Rhonda; Richard Kernen and wife Diana; Jeff Ayler; and Brian Ayler, all of Madison, IN; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Nelda Sieferman, and father, Charles Ireland. Visitation will be at Lytle Funeral Chapel, 423 W. Main St., Madison, IN 47250, on Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., EST, with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Madison, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
