Life story Lt. Commander Clyde M. Hippard, U.S. Navy (Retired), age 73, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the King's Daughters' Hospital. Born April 17, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Robert A., Sr. and Blanche (Holas) Hippard. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hippard in 1989, one son, Eric Hippard in 1993, and one sister. Lt. Commander Hippard was a graduate of Elmhurst College in Chicago. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 14, 1959 in Raleigh, North Carolina, becoming a fighter jet pilot and instructor, and serving during the Viet Nam War. He retired on June 30, 1978 in Pensacola, Florida. He was a Baptist, a member of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion and VFW Post 1969, both in Madison, the Elk's Lodge #2108 in Pensacola, the AMVETS, the Military Order of COOTIES, Pup Tent 66, and the Fleet Reserve. In his early days, he played saxophone and clarinet with a swing band. He and his wife retired to this area from Pensacola in August, 2005. Survivors include his wife, the former Virginia Dicks, to whom he was married in 1992; two daughters: Kelly Routh of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Vickie McWilliams of Washington, D.C.; one son, Scott Hippard of Gulf Breeze; one brother, Ray Hippard of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his close friends, Dr. Doug and Amie Duerstock and Wilma and Tim Watkins, all of Lexington, Indiana, and Dale and Connie Gordon of Michigan. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. until services on Friday. The Honor Guard of the United States Navy and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military honors at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison following the funeral services. Lt.
