Sauer
December 21, 1947 – May 15, 2024
Cris L. Sauer, age 76, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Moore) Sauer, was born on December 21, 1947, in Madison. He was a 1965 graduate of Madison High School and owned and operated Sauer Machine and Racing for over thirty years. He also owned Miller's Tavern in North Vernon, Indiana, Vernon Liquor Store in Vernon, Indiana, and Shipley's Tavern for fifteen years in Madison. He was a member of the Madison Municipal Airport Board from 2012 to 2021 and served on the City of Madison Board of Zoning Appeals from January 2008 to December 2018 and the City of Madison Plan Commission from January 2008 to December 2016. He was a member of the Masonic Union Lodge #2 in Madison, the Madison Elks Lodge #524, the Madison VFW Auxiliary, the Vettes of Madison Corvette Club, and the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid gun and coin collector. Cris had his private pilot license and enjoyed flying his airplanes, racing cars, and building race car engines in his spare time. On October 5, 1981, he became a volunteer firefighter with the Rykers Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for 25 years. He was loved by so many people and will be dearly missed. Mr. Sauer passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. His life will be cherished by his wife, Nancy Oakley Price of Madison; his son: Wesley (Michelle) Sauer, of Madison; his step-son: Robbie (Amber) Price, of Shelbyville, Kentucky; his granddaughter: Emma Sauer of Madison; his step-grandchildren: Dustin Dean of Dupont, Indiana, Karley Adams of Milton, Kentucky, and Katelynn Roark of Dupont; the mother of his son, Shelia Sauer of Madison; and four nieces: Mary Elizabeth Harmon, Cindy Rawlins, Teresa Scott, and Gay Harmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Sauer, and his sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Gow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky. Friends and family may visit at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2024, and from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday. Rykers Ridge Volunteer Fire Department will honor Cris with a fireman's memorial service on Friday at 7:00 PM, with Masonic memorial services to follow at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Municipal Airport Events Inc. or the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter. Contributions may be made at Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
