Callis, Sr.
August 23, 1950 – September 6, 2021
Danny R. Callis Sr., age 71, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Edgar A. and Mary (VanWye) Callis, was born on August 23, 1950, in Madison. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. On June 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Carolyn J. Coker in Madison. For over 28 years, he was a cook at the Key West Shrimp House and was also a farmer and mechanic. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, camping, walking, playing cornhole, listening to country music, and watching MASH. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge and a lifetime member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion, where he served on the Honor Guard for several years. Mr. Callis passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his wife, Carolyn of Madison; his children: Dawn Geisler and her husband, Alva of Madison, Elisha Sullivan and her husband, Jason of Madison, and Danny R. Callis, Jr. and his wife, Lorena, of Lexington, Indiana; his sisters: Susie Stewart and her husband, Roger, of Hanover, Indiana, Verna Griffin of Hanover, Alice Cummings, of Brownstown, Indiana, and Deanna Callis, of Hanover; his brothers: Dallas Callis of Medora, Indiana, Gene Callis of Vevay, Charles Callis of Port Royal, Kentucky, and Mark Callis of Madison; thirteen grandchildren: Gary, Kaytlynn, Gabriona, Alexandria, Kearsten, Kelsey, Danny R. Callis, III, Jordan Callis, Addelynn, Clay, Weaver, Sara, and Wyatt; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Reverend Judy Howard-Stater will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday, September 10, 2021 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to be in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 9, 2021, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Honor Guard of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion, Madison. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
