Obituary

Life story Danny B. Strouse, age 67, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on August 29, 1947 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of Alvin B. and Margaret G. LaMaster Strouse. Mr. Strouse was a 1965 graduate of Scottsburg High School and was formerly employed with Cummins Engine Company, Pearl Packing Company, the Coca-Cola Company, and Stonybrook Home Center. He was best remembered as a City of Madison police officer, spending twenty-one years on the police force, and retiring in 2007. He then worked for the Madison Chemical Company and Lydia Middleton Elementary School, and was currently serving the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department as a special deputy for courthouse security. He also served as a volunteer sheriff reserve officer before joining the Madison Police Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was an ordained deacon, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #128, Union Lodge # 2, F and AM, a volunteer for the House of Hope, and current president of the Madison Police Merit Board. He dearly loved being with his grandchildren, and could be seen driving his golf cart along Vaughn Drive admiring the Ohio River. Danny will be missed by his wife, Carolyn Dee Hammack Strouse, whom he married on July 22, 1967 at First Baptist Church, Madison; three sons and daughters-in-law: Cary and Julie Strouse of Huntington Beach, California, Curt and Laura Strouse of Madison, and Chris and Carsha Strouse of Madison; his mother, Margaret Strouse of Scottsburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Sandy Strouse of Livonia, Michigan; and six grandchildren: Alexandra, Andrew, Taylor, Ian, Anna Marie, and Trace Strouse. He was preceded in death by his father on August 4, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted by Phil LaMaster, Reverend Brian Teater and Reverend Randy Crutchfield at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 416 Vine Street, Madison, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the First Baptist Church from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 7 and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday. FOP Lodge #128 will conduct at 7:30 PM Tuesday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army or the House of Hope. Contribution envelopes will be available at the church or Lytle Funeral Chapel, which is in charge of the arrangements.
