David Lee McCauley, age 73, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late JD and Nora (Wilson) McCauley, was born on September 4, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 16, 1971. He proudly served our country as an Airman First Class until he was honorably discharged on April 16, 1975. David graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with an associate degree in electronics. Throughout the years, he worked for the State of Indiana and the Department of Veteran Affairs, and he retired from Raytheon Technical Services where he was a union steward. On November 20, 1999, David was united in marriage to Carol Jean (Stough) McCauley at the Gethsemane Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they enjoyed 25 wonderful years together. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching old westerns, and listening to music, especially songs by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Gordon Lightfoot, and many others. He loved the Indianapolis 500 and had fond memories of visiting the Brickyard as a kid and talking with the drivers. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and a former member of the American Legion. David loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Mr. McCauley passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his residence in Hanover. His life will be cherished by his loving wife, Carol of Hanover; his step-children: Debra Casper and her companion, Scott of Indianapolis, Sheila Bandy and her husband, Dru of Milroy, Indiana, and James DuBose and his wife, Amy of Ohio; his brother: Glenn McCauley of Avon, Indiana; his sister: Kathy Rotorto of Kentucky; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Linda McCauley. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may gather at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
