Obituary

Life story The Lytle Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the Oakley Family with the funeral arrangements for Mr. Oakley, who died suddenly Saturday morning. Donald Vincent Oakley, age 53, of Milton, Kentucky, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Saint Catherine Hospital in Charlestown, Indiana. He was born January 4, 1956 in Madison, Indiana, the son of Vincent and Wilma Wood Oakley. After graduating from the Trimble County High School in 1974, he attended the University of Kentucky where he was an active member of the Alpha Gamma Roe Fraternity. He graduated from the former Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1977. He was president of Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton, and was currently serving as Mayor of Milton for twelve years. He was involved in many community service groups including serving as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 146, the Trimble County Band Boosters, TCHS Cross Country boosters, youth league baseball coach, and the Milton Lions Club. He was a member of both the Bedford, Kentucky and Milton Masonic Lodges. He was an active member of the Milton United Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastor-Parish committee, its Board of Trustees and served as Co-Chair of the Building Committee. In the past he has touched many lives by serving as both Superintendent of the Milton Water and Sewer systems and as an employee of Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky for thirteen years. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Beverly Oakley; two sons: Andrew V. Oakley (Shanna Oakley) of Campbellsburg, Kentucky, and Christopher R. Oakley of Milton; his mother, Wilma Oakley of Milton; one sister, Nancy Oakley Price (John Price) of Midland, Michigan; one grandson, Kaiden N. Oakley of Campbellsburg; two great aunts, one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, and his grandparents, Shelley and Elizabeth Oakley and Wilbur and Inez Wood. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Milton United Methodist Church, with burial in the Moffett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 PM Tuesday at the Milton United Methodist Church. No visitation will be held on Wednesday before the service. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Milton United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Gideon's International.
