Life story Dorothy Jane Hutton, surrounded by her family, died on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. She was born on March 23, 1928 in Saluda, Indiana, the tenth of eleven children born to Ed and Bessie Reed Hay. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Saluda High School in 1946. After graduation, she moved to Indianapolis where she worked at the Indiana State House. While there, she met and married George K. Hutton in 1949. They lived in Yuma, Arizona for several years but returned to Hanover where they raised their five children: Alan Hutton of Racine, Wisconsin, Susan Sparks of Madison, David Hutton of Indianapolis and Kent Hutton and Keith Hutton, both of Newnan, Georgia. In addition to raising a large family, Mrs. Hutton worked for many years at Clifty Inn in the office and in event planning. She then opened and managed the Upper Crust Deli and Catering in Madison. Upon retirement, she was a house mother for the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at Hanover College. She was active in her church and her community. She was a former member of New Prospect Baptist Church and currently of the Madison First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Anchor Sunday School Class. She volunteered at the King's Daughters' Hospital, was a docent with Historic Madison and was a member of RSVP. She participated in the Republican Women's and?Senior Citizens activities and served on the Resident's Council of the assisted living facility at Hampton Oaks in Scottsburg. She was an avid reader, loved to collect antiques and spend time with her friends and family. Mrs. Hutton is survived by her five children; one brother, Ray Hay of Rushville, Indiana; one son-in-law, Terry Sparks; two daughters-in-law, Colleen Hutton and Rhonda Hutton; eight grandchildren: Matthew Sparks, Michael Sparks, Kasey, Josef, Alexa, Mitchell, Brody and Erin Hutton; two great grandchildren: Reagan and Stella Sparks; niece, Marcelena Dunn;?great niece, Kelly Joyce and her daughter, Harper; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; her parents; her sisters: Margaret Walker, Helen Ferguson, Ruth McCoskey, and Carolyn Hay; and her brothers: Thomas, Clarence, Lawrence, John and Robert Hay. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Jon Carlstrom and Reverend James Sparks at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, with interment to follow in New Prospect Baptist Cemetery. Friends and family may offer condolences from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Lytle Funeral Chapel and from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the church. The family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Organ Restoration Fund or the Madison-Jefferson County Library, Hanover Branch.
