Obituary

Life story Mr. Dorvin M. "Bud" Shank, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Thornton Terrace in Hanover. Born November 8, 1922 in Trotwood, Ohio, he was the son of Marion and Cora (Neff) Shank. Mr. Shank graduated in May 1940 from Madison Township High School in Trotwood and attended Manchester College for two years. He served in the United States Army/Air Corp during World War II, entering into service at Fort Benjamin Harrison on January 15, 1943 and separating at Camp Atterbury on March 13, 1946. He served as a supply clerk in the 92nd Air Depot GP, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for nine months. He retired from Civil Service in 1962 as an administrative office auditor of Lend-Lease Properties at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He then became a sales representative for the Dayton Gun Headquarters and a federal firearms dealer. Mr. Shank moved to Main Street in Madison in 1992 from Bradenton, Florida, and had previously loved in Louisville and Richmond, Kentucky, as well as Dayton. He was a member of Brethren and Baptist faith and a deacon in the Baptist church. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and an avid member of the Jefferson County Senior Citizens Center. He also enjoyed guns and reading. Survivors include two daughters: Joellen M. Ammons and her husband, Jerry of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Judith E. Wortham and her husband, Jim of Madison; one son Jim Shank and his wife, Connie of Sarasota, Florida; three sisters: Claire Hartsough of Plymouth, Indiana, Joyce Lovelace of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Lora Gulledge of Madisonville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Ruth E. Karns, to whom he was married on October 19, 1949 in Urbana, Indiana and who preceded him in death on January 10, 2008; one brother, Dale L. Shank; and two sisters, Geneva and Roberta. Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Jefferson County Senior Citizens Center.
