Obituary

Douglas Herman "Doug" Hodges, age 87, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late Seaton Herman and Nola (Roberts) Hodges, was born on October 1, 1937, in Portland, Tennessee. On October 25, 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and proudly served our country for the next six years. Doug was honorably discharged on December 18, 1963 and soon after, began a 23-year career as an over the road truck driver. After retiring from Teamsters, he began working as an elevator inspector for the State of Indiana.

On May 26, 1989, Doug was united in marriage to Mary Ann Epley at the Garfield Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they enjoyed over 35 wonderful years together. In his spare time, he enjoyed perusing yard sales and flea markets, antiquing, going on slow drives in the country, horse racing, hunting, and fishing. Doug was a true family man and loved having family gatherings. He cherished his time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Mr. Hodges passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, with his loving wife by his side.

His life will be cherished by his wife, Mary Hodges of Hanover; his children: Danny Rice and his wife, Jennifer of Greenwood, Indiana, Martin Shutt of Tampa, Florida, and Tammy Williams and her husband, Heath of North Vernon, Indiana; his grandchildren: Casey Jo Williams, Liam Williams, Devon Smith, Kelsey Smith, Ashlyn Smith, and Paisley Rice; and his sister: Betty Kirk of Middleburg, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Bart Hodges; his sister and her husband, Virginia and James Burgett; his brothers: Lee Hodges, Robert Hodges, Kenneth Hodges, James Hodges, and Harold Hodges; and his brother-in-law, Tommy Kirk.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel with inurnment to follow. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
