Life story Edith L. Steppe, age 65, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2007 at the Hospice Center of Southern Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. She was born on November 25, 1942 in Madison, the daughter of Nathan and Bertha Wyatt Claghorn. Mrs. Steppe was a homemaker, and retired as a social worker in February, 2005 from the Jefferson County Division of Children and Family Services after seven years of service. She was a member of the North Madison Christian Church, enjoyed playing Bingo and loved her dog, Rhett. Survivors include her husband, David A. Steppe, to whom she was married on June 30, 1978; four daughters: Tracy Smith of Richmond, Virginia, Jennifer McMahan and her fiance, Kenny Ison of Madison, Tiffany McGillan and her husband, Justin, of Madison, and Gretchen Pyles of Madison; two sons: Stephen Lichlytler of Alvin, Illinois and Todd Lichlytler of Madison; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry and Annabelle Claghorn and Robert and Nannette Claghorn, all of Madison; fifteen grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Jeffrey Lichlyter on March 2, 1961; and one brother, Bernard Claghorn. Pastor Bob Hicks will conduct memorial services at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 10:00AM until time of services on Saturday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Journey of Faith at North Madison Christian Church. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
