Life story Mr. Edward Raphael Clapham, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born October 4, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Clarence R. and Lucille Clapham. He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Terry and her husband, Roger, of Madison; three sons: Dean and his wife, Janice, of Madison, Donald and his wife, Peggy of Madison, and Stephen and his wife, Maria, of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Clarence D. Clapham of Columbus, Ohio; five half-sisters: Shirley Goben of Jefferson City, Missouri, Marlene Heltz of Mansfield, Ohio, Judy Hildreth of Westerville, Ohio, Lynda Nevills of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathy Shrewsbury of London, Ohio; five grandchildren: Christine Facemire and her husband, Steven of Madison, Dean R. Clapham, II and his wife, Yuri of Indianapolis; Ana and John Clapham of Des Moines, Iowa; and Carrie Andrew and her husband, Mark, of Union, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren: Amelia and Branson Facemire of Madison, and Jacob, Wesley and Noah Andrew of Union, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and the family of his beloved late wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence R. Clapham and Lucille Clapham Harris; his wife of 35 years, Darlene Clapham, who preceded him in death on June 3, 2007; one sister, Juanita Joy Harrington of Westerville, Ohio; and one grandson, John H. Clapham of Madison. Mr. Clapham served in the Ohio National Guard from 1936 until 1941. He owned and operated an Indian motorcycle dealership and later worked at City Loan Finance Company in Columbus. He moved his family to Madison in 1957 and was employed at the former First National Bank of Madison. He later managed the Main Finance Company, established an H&R Block office, worked for the Bank of Louisville, and was the Assistant Business Manager at Hanover College. In 1973, he purchased the Fashion Cleaners which he operated until his retirement. He also served as the President of the First National Bank of Vevay and later served on the board of directors of People's Bank. Among his civic contributions, he served as a deacon of the Madison Presbyterian Church, a Little League basketball coach, and a Madison Regatta volunteer. Mr. Clapham was Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in Madison, a member of the Madison Elks Lodge, the former Madison Country Club, the Jefferson County Board of Realtors, Past Master of Union Lodge #2, F. and A.M., and former chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Party. In retirement, Mr. Clapham co-owned Riverscape Realty, Inc. and restored historic properties in downtown Madison. The funeral will be conducted by the Reverend Lewis Wright at 11:00 AM Friday, February 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church on Vine Street in Madison. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Thursday and from 10:00 AM until the service on Friday at the church. Union Lodge #2, F.and A.M. will conduct Masonic services at 7:30 PM Thursday at Lytle Funeral Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the John H.
