Life story Mr. Edward Harrison Gumm, age 97, of Madison, formerly of Paris, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born April 11, 1913, in Edgar County, Illinois, the son of Fred L. and Susan Estella Taflinger Gumm. He was a 1932 graduate of Blackburn College and later attended the University of Nebraska. He retired after an agrarian career of over 35 years. He was a member of the Paris Society of First Church of Christ, Scientist since 1948, where he served as reader and as a member of the Illinois Committee on Publication for many years. He was also a member of Paris B.P.O.E. Lodge #812 for over 50 years, a life member of the Bicentennial Art Center and the Edgar County Historical Society, and a member of Edgar County Farm Bureau. He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn "Kay Lou" Adams and her husband, David of Madison; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, L. Isabel Siegel Gumm, to whom he was married January 24, 1942, and who died September 29, 1998; one infant son, John F. Gumm; his parents; and one sister. A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris, Illinois. Burial will be private in Edgar Cemetery there. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Madison Presbyterian Church Piano Fund.
