Life story Eleanor Louise (Sutter) Ryker, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. She was born September 2, 1924 in Rexville, Indiana, the daughter of Ezra and Dora (Hackett) Sutter. She spent her teen years in the Vevay area, and then in Cincinnati, Ohio. She wanted to help with the war effort and worked during World War II making parts for B29 Bomber airplaines. In 1948 she married a local man, Arnold Ryker, and moved to Ryker's Ridge where she and her husband owned and operated the Ryker's Ridge General Store for thirty-one years. After his death in 1974, she moved to Madison and worked for Endicott-Johnson, Shultz Brothers and Hertz Shoe stores, and Paris Style Dress Shop. She loved to travel and had been in forty-three states, Mexico and Canada. In 2000, she retired to Heritage Apartments where she enjoyed the people and activities there. She loved her church and many friends and activities there. She helped start two churches: Central Baptist Church in Cincinnati and West Street Ministries in Madison. She is survived by one daughter, Anita Ryker of Columbus, Indiana; one granddaughter, Beth A. Smitley of Hanover; one brother, William A. Sutter of Cincinnati; and one sister, Nancy Campbell of Seymour, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Della Ryker Borie; three brothers: Earl, Edward and Everett Sutter; and six sisters: Alberta Sutter, Fostina "Tina" Kirby, M. Helen Brooks, Lenora Deming, Geraldine "Geri" Cox and June Huff. The Reverend Jerry Wheeler will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Ryker's Ridge New Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 9 to 11 AM Friday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or West Street Ministries Church. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
