Obituary

Life story Mrs. Elsie G. Burke, age 69, of Deputy, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on May 6, 1940 in Seymour, Indiana, the daughter of Bruce and Carmen Alexander King. Mrs. Burke was a homemaker and partner in two businesses with her late husband. Together they owned and operated Burke's Place, a former restaurant, and the 50-50 Consignment Store, both in Madison. She was a member of the North Madison Christian Church and the Jefferson County Goodwill Conservation Club. Most of all, however, she enjoyed fishing and camping earlier in her life. Survivors include two daughters: Catherine M. Funk, and her husband, Mark of Newton, Kansas, and Sondra Hendricks of Columbus, Indiana; two sons and daughters-in-law: Daryl and Lynn Renecker of Deputy, and Rick and Carla Burress of Dupont, Indiana; one sister, Eileen Taylor of Columbus, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren: Tonya Sparks, Sharon and Daniel King, Robert, Jeffery, Carla, Stanley and Amber Renecker, Chelsea and Claire Burress, Michelle Bear, Joey Stakelin, and Melissa, Jake and Katie Funk; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Burke, Jr. on August 29, 2007, and to whom she was married on April 14, 1957 in Seymour; and one sister, Helen Hunt. Funeral services will be conducted by Elder Dennis Straub at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Friends and family may call from 10:00 AM until time of services on Saturday the funeral home. The family requests donations in memory of Mrs. Burke be made to the American Lung Association.
