Life story Mrs. Emily E. Brooks, age 88, of Madison, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison. Born August 7, 1923 in Madison, she was the daughter of Michael and Katherine Matilda Maurer McLaughlin. Mrs. Brooks graduated from the former Madison High School on Broadway in downtown Madison, and retired in 1982 from the former Joyce Shoe Company, Madison. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madison, and enjoyed watching old movies and bowling in her younger years. She was an animal lover, especially her dog, Socrates. Survivors include two daughters: Sheila Brooks of Madison, and Paula Frasher and her fianc, David Konrad of Louisville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul S. Brooks; two sisters: Dorothy Johann and Sabina Hassfurder; a brother: Charles "Muggsey" McLaughlin and an infant brother, Michael McLaughlin; and one son-in-law, Mark Frasher. The Reverend Chris Craig will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2011 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be private for the family at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
