Obituary

Life story Mrs. Eugnolia I. "Tootsie" Mitchell, age 96, of Madison, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Thornton Terrace in Hanover, Indiana. She was born November 3, 1917 in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of John Boyd and Sarah Elizabeth (Jeffries) Wayman. Mrs. Mitchell was a retired certified nursing assistant at King's Daughters' Hospital and previously employed by the former Tower Manufacturing Company. She attended Madison High School class of 1936, and was a past president of the ladies auxillary of Weber-Warren-Lewis VFW Post 1969, Madison. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Rebekah Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Red Hat Society, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and served as a docent for the Madison Railroad Museum. Survivors include three sons: Elbert "Bill" Spivey and his wife, Cookie of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Gary Spivey and his wife, Miriam of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jeff Mitchell of Madison; one step-son, Larry Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and four nieces: Glenitta Boldery and Elberta Willick of Madison, Betty Shaw of Markleville, Indiana and Bonnie Cowan of Culman, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Boyd and Sarah Elizabeth (Jeffries) Wayman; her first husband, Elbert Duncan Spivey in 1950; her second huband, Albert Brady Mitchell in 1971; an infant son Kenneth Spivey in 1937; adult son, Richard Spivey in 2003; one brother, Forest Wayman in 1952; and one foster sister, Dorothy Shaw in 1990. The Reverend Bill Johnson will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2014 at First Christian Church, Madison, with interment to follow at the Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM till 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel and from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, January 13, 2014 at the church. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Historic Madison, Inc . Contributions can be made at the funeral home, at the church or on our website.
