Obituary

Life story Fauna L. Cable Mihalko, age 74, of Hanover, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Hanover Nursing Center. Born August 4, 1930 in Jinestown, Monroe Township, (what was later the Jefferson Proving Ground and now a wildlife refuge), she was the daughter of the late Everett Dean and Mary Liena (McHenry) Ritchey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Mihalko, Jr. in November 1986, and brother, Paul Edward Ritchey. Mrs. Mihalko graduated from Dupont High School and spent her life in Jefferson County. She retired from the Conn Organ Company when the Madison plant closed, and later retired as genealogist for the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library, helping expand and organize that department as a reliable resource for southeastern Indiana. Her personal genealogy files are part of the collection at the Jefferson County Historical Society, of which she was a long time member. She was the secretary of the Madison Regatta in the 1960's when Miss Madison was in her prime. Mrs. Mihalko and her husband, John, were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. Sadly missed is her abiding interest in the history, folklore and stories of Jefferson County; her dry wit and her willingness to help solve any problem presented to her facile mind. She is survived by two sons: John Cable of Madison and Charles Mihalko of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three daughters: Mary Gilpin of Madison, Roseanne Mauldin of Columbus, Indiana and Barbara Walker of Portland, Oregon; her brother, Robert Dean Ritchey of Lawndale, California; nine grandchildren: Richard, Miranda Messer, Penelope Burnham, Christian Cable, Anastasia Cable, India Cable, Dagmar Cable Laura Mauldin and Megan Mauldin; and one great granddaughter, Jubilee Burnham. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made through the Lytle Funeral Chapel and memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana Chapter. Cards are available at the Lytle Funeral Chapel in downtown Madison. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Fauna L. Mihalko, please visit our floral store.
