Life story Freda J. Melton, age 79, of Madison, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Hanover Health and Rehab Center. Born December 31, 1936 in Madison, she was the daughter of William G. and Rotha A. (Cull) Johnson. She was married to Charles B. "Dutch" Fisher and they had four children: Dale, Charles Sam, Rodney, and Rotha Jeanette. She then was married to Charles Bernard "Bird Dog" Melton on November 22, 1971 and they had two children: Freda Dawn and Bernard Wayne. She was a homemaker, a member of the former Eagles Lodge, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, canning, gardening, cards, puzzles, and spending time with friends and neighbors. Mrs. Melton is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Dawn Davis and her husband Mark of Madison; four sons: Dale H. Fisher and his wife, Melissa, Rodney F. Fisher and his wife, Julie, Charles Sam Fisher and Bernie Melton, all of Madison; three step children: Charles A. Melton, GiGi Straub, and Samuel Melton and his wife, Kathy, all of Madison; one sister, Alma Boldery and her husband, Kenny of Milton, Kentucky; one brother Robert "Bobby" Johnson of Madison; ten grandchildren: Kristen Fisher Valenti (Kevin), Dylan Fisher (Samantha), Ashley Fisher Long (Josh), Sheila Dawn Evans (Jason), Collin Fisher, Joshua Mace (April), Justin Oliver, Amanda Davis, and Braxton and Bode Melton; and eight great-grandchildren: Tyler, Madisyn, Lucas, and Jacob Valenti, Conner and Evelyn Jeanette Long, Candace and Niyala Sueann Oliver. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rotha J. Fisher; four sisters: Zelda, Monna, Rotha, and Wanda; and seven brothers: Alfred, Goble, Tilford, Duard, Dale, Rodney Richard, and Bernard "Bumper". Mr. Adam Jones will conduct funeral services at 7:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Main Street Chapel of Lytle Funeral Homes, with private burial to be held later. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the Main Street Chapel of Lytle Funeral Homes. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Salvation Army or American Cancer Society. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
