Life story Mr. George W. Kalb, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Born December 7, 1918 in Madison, he was the son of Fred and Veronica (Schaeffer) Kalb. Mr. Kalb was a graduate of Madison High School and a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, now known as Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired in 1980 from Public Service Indiana, now known as Duke Energy. Active in the Knights of Columbus, he served one term as Grand Knight. His memberships also included the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #1969, Madison. Mr. Kalb also served as a councilman for the first district on the Madison City Council. He always enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Hoosiers, and was a special guest of Coach Bobby Knight at a basketball game in Bloomington on Senior Night in 1993. Mr. Kalb is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: G. Richard "Rick" and Barb Kalb, Madison; three daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn A. and Philip Jones of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kathleen and Jack Dalgleish of Burlington, Kentucky, and Teresa K. and Donnie Shaffer of Madison; ten grandchildren: David Kalb, Kevin Kalb, Beth Johnson and her husband, Brandon, Christian Jones and his wife Adriana, Daniel Jones, Karen O'Malley and her husband, Kevin, Brian Dalgleish, Sara Dalgleish, Julie Bell, and Michael Bell; six great grandchildren: Gabriel and Benjamin Jones, Ashley Dean, and Shea, Brogan and Brodie Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Betty J. Turner, to whom he was married on February 12, 1946 and who died on March 5, 1991; three brothers: Frederick, Bernard and Robert Kalb; and four sisters: infant Mary Louise Kalb, Anna C. Kalb, Mary M. Kalb and Martha Hill and her husband, Bob. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by the Reverend Chris Craig at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 AM Thursday. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Prince of Peace Catholic Schools in Madison.
