Life story Mr. George Joe Kelley, Sr., age 82, of Hanover, Indiana passed away on Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born June 29, 1923, he was the son of Joe and Golda (Robison) Kelley, who preceded him in death. He was married to Wanda Francisco on June 4, 1947. Mr. Kelley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 8th Fighter Control Squadron. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He retired in 1980 as a truck driver for Courier Newsom Trucking in Columbus, Indiana, having worked there for 22 years. He was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion, Jefferson Post 9, and Disabled American Veteran's. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters in law: George Joe and Jean Kelley, Jr. of Hillsborough, North Carolina and John and Tanya Kelley of Hanover; two sisters: Ilva Kimmel of Madison and Una McGill of Fort Worth, Texas; a niece, Betty Jo Grant of Fort Worth; and his beloved cat, Blue. Father John Meyer will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 PM Wednesday October 26, 2005 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. The Honor Guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9 will conduct a flag presentation during the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the V.F.W. 10528 in Hanover or the Boy Scouts of America. Cards are available at the funeral chapel.
