Life story Mr. George Staley, Jr., age 74, of Bedford, Kentucky, formerly of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2005 at his residence. Born February 14, 1931 in Dewitt, Arkansas, he was the son of the late George, Sr. and Mabel Schrock Staley. Mr. Staley served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1953 with the rank of Air Controlman Third Class. He then worked for NASA in Ohio in the area of research and development, helping to develop the space program. He later transferred to the former Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, still working in research and development. He was a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church in LaGrange, Kentucky, and a former member of First Assembly of God Church, Madison. He was currently attending Tri-County Community Fellowship in Campbellsburg, Kentucky. His other memberships included the Blind Veterans Association at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky and the Republican Party. Among his hobbies was his passion for going squirrel hunting and sitting in the woods where it was "peaceful." Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Capps, to whom he was married on February 20, 1951; two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Melissa Staley of Bedford, Kentucky and Robert and Mary Staley of Turlock, California; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chuck Hiltz of Lorton, Virginia; three sisters: Margaret Bursley of Wakeman, Ohio, Dorothy King of Parma, Michigan, and Jean Head of Euless, Texas; eight grandchildren: Jimmy, Jasmine, Lena, Hope and Luke Staley, and Peter, Michelle and Paul Hiltz; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted by Reverend Jeff Combs, Reverend Steve Perry and Reverend Owen Dolin at 3:00 PM EST Saturday, September 10, 2005 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends and family after 1:00 PM EST. Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military honors at the funeral chapel.
