Life story Mr. Gerald L. "Jerry" Gordon, age 59, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born on March 10, 1947, the son of the late Gayle C. and Virginia E. (Bruner) Gordon. Mr. Gordon graduated in 1966 from Madison Consolidated High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on May 7, 1966, and reenlisted in 1969. He was honorably discharged on June 21, 1972 as a sergeant after serving two tours in Viet Nam. He received several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Unit Citation Combat Ribbon. Upon his return to Madison, he worked as a shipping and receiving specialist for the former Jefferson Proving Ground until his retirement on September 3, 1993. After that, Mr. Gordon served the Clifty Falls State Park Inn as a cook until illness forced him to retire again in 2000. Mr. Gordon was a member of the Madison Chapter 55, Disabled American Veterans, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, the former Edith Surrett, whom he married on December 19, 1969 in Carrollton, Kentucky; one daughter, Kendra L. Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons and daughters-in-law: Tony and Penny Gordon of Lexington, Indiana, and Vince and Sarah Gordon of Madison; two sisters: Janet Brubaker and her husband, Don, of Merritt Island, Florida, and Sandy Herbert of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren: Brittany, Jeremy, Alex and Zane Gordon, and Trevor Brittain; and several nieces and nephews. The Reverend Mike McArter will conduct graveside services at 10:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2006 at the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2006 and from 9 AM until time of services at Grandview Memorial Gardens Chapel. The honor guard of the United States Marine Corps and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Chapter 55, Disabled American Veterans. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
