Life story Hampton "Hamp" Baxter, age 56, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. He was born on November 5, 1953 in Anderson, Indiana, the son of Donald Charles and Mary Hannah Bender Baxter. Mr. Baxter grew up in Anderson and graduated from the Highland High School there in 1972. He was a professional cowboy and wrangler, having worked on a ranch in Montana for many years. He returned to Madison in 1994. He was a true cowboy in every sense of the word. His love for his family, friends, horses and all of God's creatures ran deep. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He loved to strum a guitar, sing a song, tell a story and was the best caramel maker on both sides of the Mississippi. Survivors include two sons: Zachery John Baxter of Montana, and Gabriel Baxter and his wife, Mikel, of Madison; one daughter and son-in-law: Hannah Grace and Rhett Trogoley of Irvine, California; his father, Donald Charges Baxter of Key West, Florida; his companion, Susan Sizemore of Madison; two sisters: Sara Bickis of Madison and Cindy Stewart-Burns and her husband, Mike, of Fort Meyers, Florida; two brothers: John Baxter of Madison and Andy Baxter and his wife, Cas, of Big Fork, Montana; six grandchildren: Taylor, Sebastian, Nola, Mehley, Abraham and Harvey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hannah Baxter on December 7, 2006; and two sons: Sebastian Baxter in March, 1975 and Abraham Baxter in June, 2003. Don your hat, pull on your boots and saddle up for a celebration of his life at the Strawbale House on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 3:00 PM. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 1:00 PM on the farm. Expressions of sympathy can be made by planting a tree in memory of Hamp Baxter.
