Obituary

Life story A long time resident of Madison, IN, Harold Landis Hadley, died in Fairfax, VA on October 18, 2014 at the age of 87. Harold is survived by his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Rita and his three, incredible granddaughters Alyssa, Kristiana, and Nirel Hadley of Oakton, VA. Harold was born on August 20, 1927 in Jasonville, IN to John and Lilly (Brown) Hadley; he had one sister, Barbara. After he graduated from high school, Harold joined the Army and served in Korea. When he returned from his duty he met, fell in love with, and married Mary Antoinette Rumer in 1951. Harold and Antoinette were married for 58 years until her passing in 2009. Harold, a printer by trade, owned and operated Chapman Printing, Inc. He was a lover of Barbershop Music, with a great lead voice, and an accomplished wood worker. He joined his first Barbershop Chorus in 1948 and most recently became a member of the Fairfaix Jubil-Aires in Chantilly, VA. Harold was a founding member of the Madison Riverfront Development Committee and the Madison Ribberfest Committee. He served tirelessly on the Madison Regatta; helped organize the holiday beautification of downtown Madison with Christmas lights; and participated with the Barbershop Chorus of Madison. Before moving to Virginia to be with his son and family, he was an active and dedicated member of Prince of Peace Parish. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, November 29th at St. Patrick's Church, Fr. Chris Craig will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Harold's life. If you are unable to join us for the funeral mass, please plan to attend the celebration luncheon, at the Knights of Columbus Hall at approximately 1:30 pm, immediately following the interment. We would like this to be a time of celebrating Harold's life by sharing our favorite stories, pictures, and maybe even a few barbershop songs.
