Life story James "Jimmy" Higgins, age 54, of Madison, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2006. Born July 4, 1951, in Madison, Indiana, he was the son of James & Delores Patricia Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a self employed mechanic, a Volkswagen enthusiast, loved to work on motorcycles and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he attained the rank of SP4. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and became a rifle marksman.. Survivors include his mother, Patricia Lunsford of Madison; grandmother, Dorothy McDarment of Madison; aunt, Mary Taylor of Madison; uncle, Louis "Buck" McDarment Jr. and his wife, Sonja of Madison; aunt, Mary Sue Callis and her husband, Tad of Madison and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 1964; two brothers, Mark Higgins in 1963, and Michael Higgins in 1987; his grandfather, Louis McDarment in 1987 and an aunt, Janet Rowlison. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2006 and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2006. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9 will conduct full military honors at the graveside. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church or the donor's choice. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
