Life story James H. (Herb) Perry, age 78, entered life September 16, 1929, and entered eternal rest on Sunday September 30, 2007 at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville, Iowa. Herb was a lifelong resident of Madison until his health started to fail and he moved closer to his family in Iowa in 2003. He attended the Broadway School and received his high school diploma while serving in the Army. Herb served two tours in the Korean Conflict from 1947-1948 and from 1950-1951. In 1954 he married Elsie M. Cosby and they divorced in 1989 to this union came one daughter Cheryl Denise. He worked at Samples Ice Cream, C&R parts and OK Trucking. He retired in 1982 due to a disability, and after retirement he ran the Crystal Beach Concession stand. In the 1950's he played fast pitch softball for Hoffman Liquors and Cosby Motors. Herb also coached girls and women's softball for several years. His hobbies included watching the Cincinnati Reds or Indiana Hoosiers Basketball. He also enjoyed making and selling ceramics. Herb is survived by his daughter Cheryl Denise Perry-Carter, her husband Keith and their children Evan and Erin of Iowa City, Iowa. His parents, four brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 4th at Lytle Funeral Chapel with committal at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the time of service at Lytle Funeral Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or American Kidney Association.
