Life story Jane Garber Wallis Jacobs, age 69, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Hosparus Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on December 6, 1945 in Madison, the daughter of Donald R., Sr. and Mary Goode (Garber) Wallis. She was a member of the Madison Consolidated High School class of 1963. She was united in marriage to Curtis M. Jacobs Sr. She became the publisher of The Madison Courier upon the death of her father in 1989, and held that position until her death. She was a member of Madison Presbyterian Church, where she had been a member since 1952, and where she had served as elder, clerk of session, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and co-founder and teacher of the Madison Presbyterian Church Preschool. She was a founding member of the Madison Ohio Valley Arts Council along with Cliff Taylor. She was also a member of Coalition Against Substance Abuse, Indiana Republican Editors Association and the Madison-Ohio Valley Community Chorus. She was also a former board member and president of the Jefferson County Youth Shelter, which is now Pathways, a former board member and drive chairman of the Jefferson County United Way, a former board member of the Englishton Park Presbyterian Ministries, a member of the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, and Ruth Haven Jefferson County Transitional Services. She also served as a board member of Casa Amiga, Historic Madison Inc., The Salvation Army and Big Brothers and Big Sisters, where she was former chair for Bowl for Kids' Sake. She was a founding board member of the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County. She enjoyed singing, all genres of music, the theater, reading, being on the Ohio River and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah "Sally" and Kevin Clymer of Falmouth, Massachusetts; two sons and daughters-in-law: Curtis M, Jr. and Nancy Jacobs, and William and Meredith Jacobs, all of Madison; seven grandchildren: Carolyn and William Clymer of Falmouth; and Connor, Ruby, Katie, Curtis and Christian Jacobs, all of Madison; and three nieces: Laura Wallis of Northampton, Massachusetts, Sarah Wallis of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Jessica Wallis of Boulder, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her father in 1989; her mother in 2013; and two brothers: Michael Christian Wallis in 1954 and Donald R. Wallis, Jr. in 2012. The Reverend Scott Hookey will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Madison Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, April 19 in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, April 17 and from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church.
