Life story Mr. Jesse A. "Junebug" Brooks, Sr., age 72, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008 at his residence. Born June 12, 1935 in Carrollton, Kentucky, he was the son of Avery Chan and Jessie Alice Rose Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Carroll County, Kentucky, High School, and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1952-1955. He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, and ended his tour as a corporal. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Proht Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a former owner/operator of a service station on US 421 in Madison. After that, he began a 20 year career with the former Demaree Motors as an automobile reconditioner. He finished his career with the Jim Hadley Auto Dealership. Mr. Brooks' interests included fishing, gardening, tinkering with his truck, and lottery tickets. He attended St. John's United Church of Christ and Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, both in Madison. Survivors include his best friend and companion, Diana Brooks Gronberg of Madison; three daughters: Sonja Babcock and her husband, Jeff, of Wasilla, Alaska, Lori Buckles and Julie Brooks, both of Madison; two sons: Jesse Brooks, Jr. of Madison, and Jay Brooks and his wife, Birgit, of Duluth, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Jamie Connors, Justin Brooks, Ashley and Jacob Babcock, Jessica Atkinson, Billy Jay "BJ" Brooks, Emanuel and Kayla Brooks, Madison Brooks and Nicole Lucero; and eight great grandchildren: Josh, Alex and Jaden Connors, Joseph, Kyler and Justin Brooks, Jr., and Kyra and Joshua Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Frances Owens and Lucy Brooks; two brothers: Paul Brooks and Boyd "Buster" Brooks; and one great grandson, Joshua Vest. The Reverend Ken Rodenburger will conduct funeral services at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday and from 9 to 10AM Thursday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the St. John's United Church of Christ.
