Life story Mr. Jesse C. Purvis, age 76, of Madison, passed away on Friday July 9, 2010 at the V.A. Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on April 30, 1934 in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, the son of Homer and Hazel Clark Purvis. Mr. Purvis served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, having been honorably discharged in1954 after four years of service. He then retired from the shipping department at Envirex of Madison after many years of service. He was a member of Columbus Chapter #10, Royal Arch; John B. Grove Council #54, Cryptic Masons; Columbus Commandery #14, Knights Templar; the Murat Shriners of Indianapolis; Scottish Rite-York Rite Cross of Honor; a past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star #530; Union Lodge # 2, F. and A.M.; the Madison Volunteer Fire Department; and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a member of the Milton Wesleyan Church in Milton, Kentucky. Survivors include his wife, the former Charlotte Fox, to whom he was married on June 18, 1954; one sister, Molly Louden of Sulpher, Kentucky; two brothers: Dan K. Purvis of Indianapolis and Calvin Mahoney of California. He was preceded in death by his parents: Homer Purvis and Hazel Clark Purvis Mahoney; one sister, Mary Roberts; and one brother, Homer Purvis. The Reverend Ben Colburn will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Milton Wesleyan Church, with interment to follow in the Moffett Cemetery, Milton. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 13, 2010 and from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday by Union Lodge #2, F. and A.M. and by the Order of Eastern Star, #530 at 7:30 PM Tuesday. Both will be at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Milton Wesleyan Church. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
