Obituary

Life story Mr. John David Stoner, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1940 in Madison, Indiana, the son of Edward C. and Mary M. Stewart Stoner. Mr. Stoner was a 1959 graduate of Madison High School, a farmer from 1965 to the present, and a carpenter and millwright, having been a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for thirty years, retiring in 2005. He had previously worked for the former Rexnord Corporation, and had served as a cook in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Currently, he drove cars for Craig Toyota, and was a funeral service assistant at Lytle Funeral Chapel. He was member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and its Chancel Choir, past president of the Madison Kiwanis Club, a trustee of the Madison Elks Lodge, Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, and the Ulster Project. He had been named a Kentucky Colonel, was an avid Indiana University basketball fan, and enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, farming and his cows. Survivors include his wife, the former Carole Wass, to whom he was married on April 24, 1965 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Phil Wolfe of Canaan, Indiana; three sons and daughters-in-law: Steven D. and Kathy S. Stoner of Lexington, Indiana, John R. and Cathy Stoner of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and Greg E. and Laura Stoner of Floyds Knobs; one brother, Paul Stoner of Sellersburg, Indiana; one sister, Deanna Briley of Lebanon, Ohio; and eight grandchildren: Jack, Paige, Sam, Robert, Andrew, Emily, Ryan and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Edward "Butch" Stoner on July 27, 1997, and Harry T. "Tom" Stoner on March 22, 2001; and one grandson, Timothy Steven Stoner on March 24, 2004. The Reverend Chris Craig will conduct The Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM February 17, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, February 16 and from 9:00 to 10:30 AM on Monday. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church or the Riverfront Development Committee.
