Obituary

Life story Mr. John Ellsworth Wheeler, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1936 in Madison, the son of Russell and Marie (Callis) Wheeler. He graduated in 1956 from the former Central High School, and the Kentucky School of Barbering in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic. Mr. Wheeler was the owner and operator of Wheeler's Barber Shop in Madison for fifty-three years, retiring and closing his shop on Main Street on March 31, 2013. He attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church, and enjoyed airplanes and war movies. Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Gladden, to whom he was married on September 29, 1958 in Wirt, Indiana; one daughter, Sherry Billman and her husband, Christopher of Springfield, Tennessee; one son, Jason Wheeler and his wife, Tamara of Minooka, Illinois; his daughter-in-law, Barb Wheeler of Hanover, Indiana; one brother, Ronald Wheeler and his wife, Wilma of Hendersonville, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law: Eula Wheeler of Hanover and Betty Wheeler of Ashland, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Chad Pennington, Laura Hinton, Andy Ferguson, Sara Hutchinson, Chris Wheeler, Amara Cosby, Trey Cosby and Ella Wheeler; and three great grandchildren: Bryar, Lexie and Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ricky Wheeler of June 27, 2011; and five brothers: Hershel, Elmo, Clayton, Maynard and Bobby Wheeler. The Reverend Robert Leach will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 and from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
