Life story Mr. Landis Shelton, age 81, of Hanover, formerly of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover. Born June 11, 1932 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, he was the son of Landis, Sr. and Birdie (Rape) Shelton. Mr. Shelton graduated high school in Oklahoma, and formerly lived in Arkansas, Oregon and Florida. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he served sequestered on a secret base in Western United States for eighteen months working as a mechanic for the first jet aircraft the Air Force ever had. He owned and operated several businesses around the country, including a concrete figurine business in Palm Bay, Florida, and the Bumble Bee Trailer Rental Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He retired twenty-nine years ago. As an avid pilot, he owned a company that served funeral homes by transporting casketed remains from one funeral home to another. He also held a patent on the design of a special device used by fishermen for their fishing poles. Mr. Shelton was a Protestant. Survivors include one daughter, Sindy Young of Auburn, Washington; his close friend and caregiver, Craig Cook of Madison; three grandchildren: John Ryden and Sara Young, both of Washington, and Amber Young of Oklahoma; one step-great granddaughter, Brandice Johnson; and two step great-great grandchildren: Chloe and Brody Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Birdie Shelton McFereson; and his wife, the former Ruby McKibben Shelton, who preceded him in death in 2000. As his request, no services will be held. He will be interred next to his late wife, Ruby in Oklahoma.
