Laura Jean Humes, age 61, of Charlestown, Indiana, formerly of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Ruth Merit (Todd) Humes, was born on October 17, 1963, in Madison. She was a 1982 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. For many years, she worked for the US Shoe Factory and Arvin Sango, Inc.. She was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church and the American Legion in Madison. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and riding her motorcycle with her friend. Ms. Humes passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at her residence in Charlestown. Her life will be cherished by her daughter: Allisha Rae Humes of Jeffersonville, Indiana; her grandchildren: Kevlin Jorden Michael, Ayden Matthew Fields, and Kyler Jason Fields; her sisters: Nancy L. Lewis, of Madison, Ruth Elaine Smith and her husband, Allen of Columbus, Indiana, Julia E. Humes Seniors of Columbus, Indiana, and Stephanie Humes Gallahar and her fiancé, Freddy of Charlestown; her brothers: Louis M. Humes and his wife, Pam Melbourne, Florida and Raymond L. Humes of Charlestown, Indiana ; her nieces and nephews: Hauris & Mark Lewis, Mary, Allen, Shawn & Bianca Smith, Merri Faith Bible, Michael Humes, Charles Seniors, Michelle & Isaac Humes, Leslie & Patrick Humes, Isaiah Humes, and Marques Gallahar; several great nieces and nephews; and her extended family: Jeff Kelly, Shirley Shirley, and Cammie Shirley, Cody and Kim Kelly, and Joel. Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth M. Humes; two brothers: John Humes and James R. Humes; three sisters: Grace E. Humes, Constance M. Humes, and Sandra Anderson; her nephew: Dustin Duggan, and her great nephew: Tre Shardelle Colber. Reverend Harvey Leggett, Jr. will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 AM Friday, December 13, 2024 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Laura Humes Memorial Fund.
