Life story Mrs. Lois Marie (Malm) Swank, 87, of Hanover, Indiana and formerly of Madison, passed away at 5:45 AM on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at her residence. She was born on Saturday, April 13, 1918, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of the late Albin Emmanuel and Bertha Augusta (Goede) Malm. Mrs. Swank graduated from the Elkhart, Indiana High School, and worked for the Chicago Telephone Company in Elkhart. She married Wendell Wilson Swank on September 6, 1942 in Dunlap, Indiana, and they were married for almost 58 years until his death on June 12, 2000. In 1961, the family moved to Madison. There, she moved her church membership to North Madison Baptist Church and became the church secretary, a position she held for fifteen years. She also had taught Sunday School for more than 50 years in different churches she served. Mrs. Swank enjoyed painting, a hobby which led her to a membership in the Madison Art Club. Spending time with her grand-children and great grandchildren was also one of her passions. Survivors include two daughters: Linda Hutchason of Hanover, and Carla Satterwhite, and her husband, Michael of Williamstown, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Robert Smith and his wife, Donna of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Diana Broad and her husband Brian, and Linda Bowling, all of Madison, Charles Hutchason and his wife, Paula and Daniel Hutchason and his wife, Tammy, all of Hanover, and Judson, Eric, Jonathon and Samuel Satterwhite, all of Williamstown, Kentucky; eleven great grandchildren: Ryan Byrd and Dustin Smith of Madison, Briana Solomon of Pomona, California, Amber, Aaron and Amelia Bowling of Madison, Michelle, Dawn, Chance and Danielle Hutchason, and Chase Dunfee, all of Hanover; two sisters-in-law: June Kirkwood of Elkhart and Grace Golden of Inverness, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; one son, Jerome Wendell Swank in 1989; one brother, Robert Malm, who was killed on January 13, 1945 during World War II; one sister, Geraldine Shank in 1985; one grandson, Brian Hutchason on October 1, 2001; a great grandchild; and a son-in-law, Charles Hutchason on July 30, 2005. The Reverend Frank J. McGee will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the North Madison Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, December 21, 2005, and at the church from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the North Madison Baptist Church. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
