Obituary

Life story Louis W. (Bill) Bellamy, 86, 307 E. Fourth St., Madison, died March 19 at King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born January 28, 1925, in Madison, the son of James E. (Ned) Bellamy and Maude Elizabeth Richter Bellamy. He was a 1942 graduate of Madison High School, 1950 journalism graduate of Butler University, Indianapolis. He began his career as a newspaper reporter/photographer/sports editor (and occasional cartoonist). He was the editor of several magazines, including Indiana Business & Industry, Manager of Publications for Union Oil Company, Chicago, a journalism instructor at Ancilla College, Donaldson, IN, a substitute teacher for Madison Consolidated Schools and a truck driver for Auxier Gas Service, Inc., Hanover. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of Madison American Legion Post 9, Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969, Madison Elks Lodge 72, Phi Gamma Delta college fraternity and Sigma Delta Chi, National Honorary Journalism Society. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Madison. Survivors include his wife, Dona E. Viau Bellamy; two daughters, Anna Elizabeth Bellamy (Bryan) Lucas of Madison, Suzanna Bellamy (Greg) Hicks of North Manchester; three sons, James William Bellamy of Madison (Jeannie), David Kirby Bellamy of Knightstown, Mark Samuel Bellamy (Jennifer) of Indianapolis; five granddaughters, Elizabeth B. Sorba, Aja S. Boudreau, Sara E. and Morgan S. Hicks, Emily S. Baumgardt; great-grandson, Maxwell B. Sorba. Mr. Bellamy is also survived by a sister, Opal Bellamy Duthie of San Luis Obispo, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Suzanna Peddie Bellamy, their infant son, Jon Andrew Bellamy and a brother, James Edward (Ed) Bellamy Jr., Madison. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 PM Tuesday March, 22, 2011 at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may gather from 5:00 PM until time of service on Tuesday at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. A private burial will take place on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery with honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #9.
