Life story Mr. Louis Henry Buckendorf, age 70, of Madison, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2006 at his residence. Born April 11, 1936 in Norfolk, Nebraska, he was the son of Louis H. and Lucille Leighton Buckendorf, who preceded him in death. Mr. Buckendorf earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, where he was a member of the Theta Xi Fraternity, and a Master's Degree from George Washington University in Engineering Sciences. During the course of his career, he worked for the Honeywell Corporation, where he retired in 1995. Following his retirement, he was asked to return to work at Cessna Aircraft, where he remained for three years. He then moved to Smith Aerospace Corporation where he worked for two years and retired again in October 2005. He was also the engineer for the tourist train which runs from Connersville to Metamora, Indiana. Mr. Buckendorf served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962 in intelligence. He also enjoyed restoring old homes. Survivors include his wife, the former Judith Harness, to whom he was married on May 21, 1960 in Groverton, Indiana; two daughters, Elizabeth Poole and her husband, John, of Kill Kenny, Minnesota, and Holly Buckendorf of Dayton, Ohio; and three grandsons: Westley Davis and Gabriel Craig, both of Dayton, and Cedric Davis of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Private family services will be held at a later date with inurnment in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County, Inc. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
