Obituary

Life story Michael K. "Muskie" Rusk, age 56, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Born on November 1, 1951 in Madison, he was the son of Frank W. and Bea Hash Rusk. He married the former Judith K. Champion on August 6, 1971 at the North United Methodist Church. Mike was a 1969 graduate of Madison Consolidated High Schools, where he played several varsity sports and was class president his senior year. He attended and played basketball for Franklin College for one year before transferring to Hanover College, where he played baseball and graduated in 1973. In 1984, he realized his dream and opened Rusk Trophies and Ad-On. He later started Rusk Realty and Main Street Mortgage, and later established Priority Reality on Main Street. He was a member of Hanover United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Madison Elks Lodge #524, Union Lodge #2, F. and A.M., the Jefferson County Board of Realtors, and was a past board member of the Jefferson County Youth Shelter. Active in the Jefferson County Democrat party, he served one term as councilman-at-large on the Madison City Council. Mike coached both boys and girls basketball, baseball, and football for many years in the Madison schools. He was very active in coaching Little League football, coached Madison Parks Department girl's softball for two years and was past president of the MCHS Booster Club. He also enjoyed horses, playing cards and spending time with his girls and grandson. Survivors include his wife, Judy; three daughters: Kara Rusk of Louisville, Kentucky, Kelly Brown, her husband, Cordy, and their son, Benjamen William, of Camby, Indiana, and Kayce Rusk of Louisville, Kentucky; his mother, Bea Rusk of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Cheryl Rusk of Jeffersonville, Indiana; his mother and father-in-law: Wilma and Tom Champion of Madison; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rick and Melanie Champion of Newburgh, Indiana and Lynn and Mike Jones of Greenwood, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank W. Rusk on May 19, 2001. The Reverend Vickie Perkins will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, 220 East LaGrange Road, Hanover, with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Chapel from 3 to 8 PM Friday, January 11, 2008, and from 12:00 Noon until time of services Saturday at the church. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the 2008 Mike Rusk Relay for Life Team, c/o Cindy Griffin at MainSource Bank. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
