Life story Mrs. Mildred I. Parkkila, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Hickory Creek of Scottsburg nursing center in Scottsburg, Indiana. Born March 23, 1912 in Hustonville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Melvin and Georgia Murphy Campbell. Mrs. Parkkila had various career interests, including serving as a store manager for a dress shop in Detroit, Michigan, as an office clerk for K-Mart Corporation International in Troy, Michigan, and as the first manager of the Heritage Apartments in Madison. She attended the Madison Presbyterian Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Detroit, and active in the RSVP and Carriage House Ladies, both in Madison. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, receiving and sending cards, fishing and loving and spending time with her children and families.. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Daghir of Madison; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Daghir and his wife, Jacqueline of Madison, and Rebecca Daghir Wardzala, and her husband, John of Avon, Indiana; and three great grandchildren: Jarred Daniels, Jacob Daghir and Jack Wardzala; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Floyd E. Gulliver and her second husband, John W. Parkkila. The Reverend Richard Draper will conduct memorial services at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Christ Episcopal Church, Madison. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. The family requests memorial contributions be made the donor's favorite charity.
